Who we are
CHRISTOPHER READER, FOUNDER
Tish Reader was Christopher’s wife.
Being at her side over the course of her 30-year career, he observed a pressing need shared equally by aspiring safari-goers and safari tour operators – the desire to connect swiftly and start a conversation.
Safari Directions was created to alleviate the stress and uncertainty that safari novices often experience when confronted with the vast array of options, particularly first-time safari-goers.
While technology has enabled rapid access to information, person-to-person communication remains the most effective way to simplify complex topics like planning a safari.
Leveraging his background in advertising he has developed a solution that provides safari-seekers with a straightforward and dependable starting point for their African adventures.
TIMOTHY CUMMING, INTERNATIONAL HOTELIER AND MEMBER OF THE ADVISORY BOARD
Tish was Timmy’s sister.
His illustrious 40-year career in superior hotels from the Savoy and New Berkeley in London, the Lancaster in Paris, the Oriental in Bangkok and the Mandarin and Regent in Hong Kong, reads like a luxury hotel guidebook.
In Africa, he was head of operations at Singita Boulders Lodge in South Africa’s Sabi Sands Game Reserve and general manager of Cape Town’s luxurious boutique hotel, Ellerman House.
His consultancy assignments include Singita’s tented camps in the Grumeti region of Tanzania and the magnificent Villa Feltrinelli on the shores of Lake Garda in Italy.
SUSIE CAZENOVE, SAFARI SPECIALIST, AUTHOR AND MEMBER OF THE ADVISORY BOARD
Tish was Susie’s cousin.
When Botswana banned trophy hunting in 1977, Susie persuaded several professional hunting companies to offer photographic safaris instead.
The impact on tourism was significant, especially in the Okavango Delta, which ranks today as Africa’s most popular safari destination.
As co-founder of luxury tour operators Cazenove and Loyd in London, she trailblazed photographic safaris throughout sub-Saharan Africa and opened-up new destinations in Zambia, Namibia, and Uganda.
Her understanding of what turns a perfectly good holiday into a life-changing experience is superbly articulated in her book ‘Legendary Safari Guides.’ As she rightly says: “seeing the sights is one thing, but hearing the stories around the campfire brings the whole thing to life.”
GAVIN KRENSKI IS AN INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED SPECIALIST IN BRAND MARKETING AND MEMBER OF THE ADVISORY BOARD
For many years he led global brand teams working for major FMCG multinationals including Unilever and Diageo and established a proud track record of unlocking powerful business and brand growth in key world markets.
Based in Dublin, Ireland, for seven years until 2023, he held the position of Global Content and Innovation Director at Guinness.
His knowledge of digital marketing, social media, and data analysis complements his fellow advisory board members’ experience in safari tourism and hospitality.
Together they strengthen the prospects of Safari Directions becoming the go-to source of guidance for people searching for safaris and the most recognizable brand in the African safari sector.
LIZ WESTBY-NUNN, TOURISM AUTHORITY, PUBLISHER AND MEMBER OF THE ADVISORY BOARD
Liz is an old friend of the family.
Her connection with safaris started in 1977 when she ran the Johannesburg office of Londolozi Private Game Reserve next door to South Africa’s Kruger National Park.
Realizing that guests needed an overnight stay in the vicinity before or after their visits, she set out to explore suitable options and made many wonderful discoveries, all of which have become popular destinations.
Later, her guidebook Portfolio of Places, became the premier shop window for places to stay throughout southern Africa.
Her knowledge of country houses, game lodges, guesthouses and B&Bs informed her appointment to the board of South Africa’s tourism authority SATOUR on which she served for six years, three of them as chair.
